What is Your Page Strength?

Check out the Page Strength tool over on SEOmoz. The tool is designed to satisfy the curiosity of webmasters, surfers and web marketing professionals seeking a better metric to quickly assess a site/page's relative importance and visibility. In other words, something other than Google's PageRank. This tool was created by Matt Inman and Rand Fishkin of SEOmoz, a Seattle based search engine optimization company.

The PageStrength tool gives you the following information:

  • Links pointing to full URL
  • Links pointing to domain
  • Position at Google for first four words of title tag on target URL
  • Age of Domain
  • Links from domains with .edu TLDs
  • Links from domains with .gov TLDs
  • Alexa Rank
  • Domain name visibility
  • Internal Link Percent
  • Number of search results for URL search at del.icio.us
  • Listings in DMOZ (ODP)
  • Links found in Wikipedia
  • Google Pagerank of full URL and Domain

I ran two of my sites (Embedded Star, iZachy – this site) through the tool. I also ran the tool on two of my favorite sites, ProBlogger and JenSense. Here are the scores (the tool actually gives you more info than this):

ProBlogger
Page Strength = 7.5 / 10
You're running with the big brands and sites, making content that engines and visitors can't help but gobble up. All that's left now is to leverage your power and push ever onwards, towards utter ubiquity.

JenSense
Page Strength = 6 / 10
Your site is having an impact and may even be a leader in your field (depending on how big or small that field is). Keep on this path; it's clear that the effort you've put in is producing results.

Embedded Star
Page Strength = 5 / 10
Your site is having an impact and may even be a leader in your field (depending on how big or small that field is). Keep on this path; it's clear that the effort you've put in is producing results.

iZachy
Page Strength = 2 / 10
Your website/page is a relative unknown. Search engines and humans are (for the time being) infrequent visitors. Consider the accessibility of the URL, the desirability of the content and your marketing efforts online; all can have great impact on your reach.

SEOmoz also has a Keyword Difficulty tool. The tool is used to analyze the competitive landscape of a particular search term or phrase, this tool issues a percentage score and provides a detailed analysis of the top ranking sites at Google and Yahoo. There's a couple of manual steps involved and you have to register to use the free tool. I can't report on the results yet because it's taking forever to run. [Update: here's my Keyword Difficulty review]

  1. iZachy.com has a page strength of 2?? I've been looking at this blog and it has lots of good posts, it is focused, lots of comments (which tells me there is a good stream of traffic). What's up with the 2/10 page strength???

  2. We really rate this tool, although our page strength is ostensibly less than our Google PR, we think it probably offers a more 'balanced' assessment of the sites worth and of course it keeps us on our toes.

  3. Thanks for the information about the tool, its exactualy what I was looking for… I think google PR is a good indication of the sites worth however its not the be all and end all. I would certainly recommend using this tool to gain a greater incite into the true rating that google assigns.
